i figure i'd christen my blog section with a simple q&a entry. thanks to Lillen for the question template!

1. favorite kind of art to make:
i love drawing side profile portraits. it's satisfying to contour the eyelids, nose ridges, lips, and chin all in one stroke. and every person has a such a unique profile
2. digital or traditional art?
i've been hooked on digital art ever since i got my first drawing tablet (wacom bamboo) when i was in middle school. it's just more forgiving - hard to go back to using an eraser when ctrl-z exists...
3. art school or self taught?
i am self taught. i did apply to art school when considering college and still wonder how different my life would be if i went down that route instead. but i think i am happy with my decision to keep art a personal passion and not a career.
4. realism or stylized art?
definitely stylized! i started drawing with tracing anime (can you tell? haha) and i feel that irreversibly shaped how i draw. i have never been very good at realism, and still hope i can improve my foundational skills.
5. characters or landscapes?
i prefer drawing characters digitally, but landscapes in my traditional art. i probably get that from my dad, who draws beautiful environments with a micron pen. it honestly makes me mad how good he is for a man who doesn't even consider himself an artist
6. favorite colors:
a strongly saturated goldenrod, a deep blue.
7. themes or subjects in your art:
hmm hard to say. i do like drawing people with little scowls.
8. favorite art movements:
i'm not well educated in art history, but if i had to name a few from western movements, i'd say i like the art styles of tonalism, art nouveau, and the ashcan school.
9. artists who inspire you:
too many to name, i'll come back and edit with specific folks later. but more generally any artist that makes love letter art for their original worlds and characters. you can tell how much passion they put into it.
oh yeah, and my absolute goat leyendecker of course
10. movies, tv, games, music, or books that inspire you:
all of the stuff i've listed in my media recommendations page
11. do you have OCs? share your favorites.
of course! my forever favorite is vert, my goat person OC who has around in some form since my middle school deviantart days. honorable mentions include stella (vert's partner in crime), and ifyr (my bard character in my d&d campaign of 3 years)
12. your biggest art strengths:
i draw pretty quickly. i rarely take more than 3 hours on a piece. i'm also proud of my "plein air" ink drawings.
13. your biggest art weakness:
i suck at rendering and desperately want to improve in that area!!! also anatomy (lol)
14. proudest art achievements:
i'm proud of all of the editorial pieces i did during my stint as the graphics editor for my university's newspaper. i'm also proud of the clay busts i made this past summer and hope to delve more into sculpture in 2026.
15. the hardest thing about being an artist:
learning to not make excuses when i am dissatisfied with the amount i'm drawing. not to be all woo woo, but in the end it's up to me to tend to my creative garden :-P
16. the people who love and support your art:
my irl friends, my online friends, everyone who loves and appreciates yuri, and YOU! thank you!
17. do you sell your art or take commissions?
i will do commissions for friends! i tabled at animenyc once in 2017 and that was probably the peak of my selling journey. never again
18. art advice for your younger self:
beg your parents to drop all the other stupid extracurriculars you signed up for and sign up for oil painting lessons instead!!! (it's so expensive as an adult)

other than that, honestly nothing. to hell with any practical advice, keep on drawing cringe anime shit cause it rocks and it makes you happy.
